Reserves Ease Past Blues

Huntingdon looks to have some promise
Graeme Souness was in the stands to witness what was an easy victory for the reserve side. Also present were Dean Saunders and Terry McDermott.

Marc Walton opened the scoring when his free-kick, albeit via a heavy deflection, found its way into the net after 10 minutes. The goal came at a time when United were reduced to ten men after Daryl Smylie had been winded and had to be replaced.

Newcastle
doubled their lead when Marcos Painter turned Michael Terrell’s second half corner into his own net after 56 minutes.

The score-line was complete when Irishman Alan O’Brien slotted home a left-foot penalty after he had been fouled in the build-up.

An unambitious Blues side were no real test for The Magpies. Paul Huntingdon looked particularly assured at the back and made a couple of great cross-field balls whilst Alan O’Brien worked tirelessly in attack.

As ever though, the team was made up of players who in reality stand little chance of getting anywhere near our first-team.

Also in the
Kingston Park stands were Martin Brittain and Peter Ramage – both perhaps rested ahead of Thursday’s UEFA Cup tie against Sporting Lisbon.

It was Tommy Craig's side first victory of 2005 after nine previous attempts.
