Relegation rivals fail to pick up points.
After defeats for Norwich and Watford on Tuesday, the midweek round of matches concluded with more encouraging results from Newcastle United’s perspective.
On Wednesday evening Manchester City saw off Brentford to win 1-0 and on Thursday lowly Burnley lost 3-1 at Manchester United.
The results mean that the Magpies have not lost ground on their relegation rivals despite the postponement of their fixture at Everton but Eddie Howe’s side have to take advantage by winning their own games. They have a crucial run of fixtures coming up, starting with Southampton at the weekend with games against Leeds United, Watford and Everton also on the horizon.
