For years children and adults alike queue to make sure their hero’s name and number is on the back of the their beloved Black and White jersey.
And Magpies have come in their thousands this pre-season to make sure the names of the club’s superstars are on their back.
In-fact, two current Newcastle United players make it into the top 20 shirt sales in the UK from May 1 while a one former player, the late Cheick Tiote, also makes the list of the top 30.
Winger Matt Ritchie is the man who has sold the most shirts and comes in at 13th on the list of 30 names of footballers across the Premier League and Europe according to Sports Direct.
The former Bournemouth man even beats Real Madrid star Cristiano Ronaldo who comes in at number 15.
Dwight Gayle, United’s number nine, comes in at 17th, with fans rushing to get his name and number on their jerseys.
Thankfully, talks of a deadline day sale to Fulham did not materialise but fans would have been nervous for a while.
And Cheick Tiote, who left United back in February and sadly died in June at the age of just 30, comes in at number 29 of 30.
