Press reports claim that Freddy Shepherd will meet with Ronaldinho’s agent on Wednesday to discover whether or not the World Cup winner would be interested in a move to St James’ Park and to discuss personal terms.
The reports further claim that Sir Bobby is prepared to offer Robert plus £4million for the Brazilian, but whether or not the Frenchman is prepared to leave is another matter.
Robert’s agent Willie McKay claims that the player is keen to see out his contract at Newcastle, but admits that may be beyond his control.
"If someone comes in with the right price, the player is sold,'' McKay told the Northern Echo. "We're seeing that with David Beckham. But Laurent wants to see out his contract with Newcastle.''
The interest of Real Madrid, Manchester United and the Milan clubs in signing Ronaldinho may well ensure that Robert’s feelings on the matter are merely academic.
