It's United's eighth league game without a win and keeps them down among the relegation strugglers, but Roeder saw signs of improvement.
Roeder: "We have not done well enough in the Premiership so far. But there is enough determination, courage and motivation in this squad to mean we will be fine in terms of getting ourselves out of the position we are in.
"We can ill-afford to lose Shola Ameobi but the time is fast approaching for him to have hip surgery. I could force him to carry on playing but it would be unfair to put someone's career in jeopardy, so we have to take the hit now.
"I like the phrase 'limp along' but clearly the transfer window cannot come quickly enough for us now.
"Kieron (Dyer)'s fitness is probably the best it has been for quite a long time.
He played for me last year but he was always pulling up in some pain from his hamstring. We have decided to give him a longer break and he seems to have the confidence that he can now press the accelerator without injuring himself."
