Roeder To Replace Harper?

Goalkeeper Steve Harper relived the moment that will haunt him for the rest of his life. He lost his footing in the 79th minute during the match with Liverpool and Xabi Alonso lobbed him from an amazing 60-yards.

The Easington-born 'keeper hoped to impress to put pressure on Shay Given's return, but instead he has the manager looking for a new goalkeeper. But, of course, there will be the royalties from every "football cock-ups" CD out this Christmas!

The problem is obviously Harper's lack of first team experience. Despite being at the club 14 years, Wednesday was his first ever appearance at Anfield and only his third Premiership start in five and a half years. Considering he rarely plays for the Reserves, no matter how highly he is rated at the club, he is "ring rusty".

Something Glenn Roeder knows only too well, as he told the NUFC official site that he is looking for a new goalkeeper. But, with the transfer window closed, he will have to be a player out of contract. Roeder: "Some we have seen are simply not good enough, but there is one goalkeeper that is interesting us".

Harper: "I was really enjoying the game. I felt great, and I don't understand it. I was playing quite high up to counteract Craig Bellamy's pace, but I was no further out than the penalty spot. I was just backpedalling to try and catch it, and as I tried to change direction I went over.

"I'm going to see that for the rest of my life now - it's just devastating. It was just one fatal slip at the wrong time. If you're an outfield player and you slip, there's somebody there to cover it for you.

"It was a horrible thing to happen, but it happened."
