Rossi Gets Premiership Start

It came on Wednesday when St James' Park looked like the Tyne, and his goal and performance against Pompey had fans leaving the stadium asking "why the hell has it taken Roeder so long to play him?"

That question came from Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson weeks ago! But the penny has finally dropped with the Newcastle manager, and probably just at the right time to save him his job.

Rossi: "The conditions ruined the game but we got our goals and it was very pleasing to get on the scoresheet. I think it was a great performance from the lads because this was a tough game. Portsmouth have some good players and a good coach, so we did very well.

"I thought it was a penalty at first for a foul on Steven Taylor, but then I saw the ref didn't blow so I got the chance to score. I have waited for my chance and it was a great moment to get my first goal. I want to keep playing well and, hopefully, I will get my chance against Charlton."

That chance will come. Glenn Roeder says the youngster will start in the line-up on Saturday.
