The player has already been contacted directly by Pearce and could be one of the three over-age players to pull on a Great Britain jersey.
However it would be right in the middle of United’s pre-season preparations.
Ryan Taylor: “I got a letter from Stuart Pearce saying I was in some sort of squad.
“I am open to it. If anybody turned down the chance to play for your country on home soil in the Olympics they would be stupid.
“But it’s not my decision.”
United will be playing all of their pre-season friendlies away this summer with St James’ Park out of use due to the Olympic football tournament.
Team GB will play three group games around the same time as United’s friendly matches, and Pearce wants to have two warm-up games, which are likely to be at Villa Park, Birmingham.
With the draw yet to be made for the tournament with qualifying still going on, Team GB would have three group games at Old Trafford, Wembley and then the Millennium Stadium. It will be Alan Pardew who makes the final decision on whether Taylor stars for Team GB.
Ryan Taylor: “If Stuart Pearce is the manager then it’s between him and the club. As I say, I’m always available.
“There are only a number of players eligible over the age of 23.
“I would always put my name in the hat.
“I’m available if selected.”
Shane Ferguson, Dan Gosling and Steven Taylor could also be candidates for the GB squad.
