Sam Set To Ignore Shearer's Wish

According to the Sunday Express Big Sam has given Shearer's comments a wide birth: "Newcastle were prepared to trade Owen for two Liverpool players - striker Craig Bellamy and left-back John Arne Riise".
However (once again quoting from the Express) ... "Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez has rejected the chance to give England striker Michael Owen an Anfield return".
It is no secret Owen planned his own escape clause in his contract, making the figure £9m, exactly the price Benitez said the England international was worth, and as far as he would go to when Real Madrid were inviting offers.
However, Owen still hasn't managed to persuade the Liverpool gaffa he is the man for him. And that is despite Stephen Gerrard saying he would love to see the 27-year old return to Anfield.
