Alan Pardew has resisted the temptation to play his £4.8m signing, saying he has been injured, but rumous around St James' Park suggest the player has been reluctant to start.
Jose Mourinho sent the defender out on loan because he doubted the player's commitment to the Inter Milan cause, despite saying: "He could be a great international of the future, but he has to change his thinking."

“But here at Newcastle it is always a big crowd.
“I saw the stadium when it was empty and thought it was brilliant. Then at the Blackburn game and I couldn’t believe how fantastic the fans were.
“The next level was to play in front of them and it really took me aback.
“The minute that Mr Pardew told me to warm up I had an exciting feeling in my body.
“I couldn’t wait to get on the pitch. It was a testing situation but I just wanted to help my team.
“It was a great day for me. To come on with the team losing 2-1 and be able to help my team-mates to get a point is a good start for me.
“This was a good result for us and I will remember the day for a long time. Given that Spurs went ahead in the game, I think to get a point out of it is good."
