Santon headed off for international duty yesterday. The 21-year-old hasn’t won a senior international cap since joining Newcastle last year.
Davide Santon: “I’m happy to be back with Italy, but my first team is Newcastle.
“I just have to think about winning for Newcastle, and afterwards the international team.
“I’m happy, of course, to be back with Italy, but I’d be more happy if I’d had a win with Newcastle.
“It’s been a long time – I was injured, and didn’t play for a year and a half – and I’m excited to see all my friends in Italy. After the game, I’ll come back and think about Swansea.
“Everybody was a little bit angry – it was an important game for us.
“It was important to take three points, but it wasn’t a good game for us, especially in the first half.
“We tried to come back in the game, but it was difficult.
“West Ham defended with 11 players.
“It wasn’t a good game for us, we have to think about Swansea, and winning that game.
“It wasn’t a good game for us. We just have to work hard this week for a win.
“The second half was much better – we put a lot of balls in the box – and had a lot of chances. It was difficult to score.
“You have to play every game, and try to win every game.”
