Davide Santon:“I am still a young player. I am only 21, but I think people forget my age because I started playing for Inter Milan when I was 18.
“There is an impression that I’m maybe 25 so they maybe expect more, but I am still learning the game and there is a lot I have to improve.
“Newcastle is the perfect team for me to improve myself. This club will help to make me a better player.
“I am desperate to score a goal. I keep trying. I don’t know why it hasn’t happened yet.
“I came close against Martimo, Wigan and last week against Manchester City, but the goalkeepers always save my shots. I am getting closer and I really hope it happens soon.
“Attacking is a big part of my game. My first job as a full-back is to defend, of course, but I love getting forward.
“I learned this in Milan because Inter have always been a team that likes the right-back and left-back to get up the park and score goals.
“I can understand why people would think I might move into midfield, but I’m not so sure that’s for me. I can play in a more forward position, but my natural role is in defence. That’s my job.”
