Liverpool fans have taken to Twitter calling for Roberto Firmino to be axed for their Premiership clash against Newcastle United on Sunday.
Firmino has started all 10 of Liverpool’s Premier League and Champions League matches this season, including the qualifying double header against his former club Hoffenheim.
But the Anfield faithful are losing patience with the errant finishing of the team’s spearhead, and they believe an orthodox number nine should lead the attack at St James’ Park.
Liverpool head to Newcastle fifth in the Premier League and have a reputation for devastating attacking play that is not matched by the end product.
Many fans believe that Firmino is not of the same calibre as the English top flight’s other leading strikers such as Harry Kane, Sergio Aguero, Romelu Lukaku and Alvaro Morata.
He is widely regarded as a Jurgen Klopp favourite as he is almost always a starter when fit but his tally of four goals and three assists from 10 matches does not seem to be enough for his critics.
In the wake of Liverpool’s 1-1 draw at Spartak Moscow in midweek, many supporters took to social media to call for Firmino to be rested at St James’ Park.
