It now looks unlikely that Louis van Gaal will be in charge of Barcelona when they come to St James’ Park for the final game of the second stage.

The Catalan side now lie in 13th position in Primera Liga after a 3-0 defeat by Sevilla and the pressure on van Gaal is rising again from both the press and Barcelona fans.

Sevilla, despite being hampered by having Vinny Samways in the side, achieved the victory with a goal from Francisco Casquero and two from Mariano Toedtli.

In Italy Internazionale beat Atalanta 1-0 thanks to a goal from substitute Mohammed Kallon and stay third in Serie A.

Bayer Leverkusen crashed to another defeat, 2-0 at home to Nurnberg, and have slipped to 14th in the Bundesliga.
