Shearer wanted the manager's job, was snubbed by Mike Ashley (allegedly because the owner wanted an "experienced" manager), and now the GOALden Boy has admitted he could work for a football club other than his beloved Newcastle.
Shearer - Cuckoo In The Nest At Newcastle?
Shearer is currently in Africa as part of Sport Relief and returns on Friday to talk to Keegan about "some role at St James' Park".
But there were concerns amongst fans when - asked if he "could be a number two, rather than manager" - he shrugged his shoulders and said "I don't know".
He had forthright views on who Newcastle should sign, and although KK insists an experienced central defender is his priority, Shearer said: "a creative midfielder has to be priority".
Keegan has never played 'second fiddle' to anyone in his career, and some believe the Keegan/Shearer partnership is doomed to failure.
Is is possible for the two to make it work? Or is Shearer getting his feet under the table and waiting his time?
Shearer: "Why would I say that Newcastle will be the only club for me?

"Yes, they are my club and I love them but it doesn't mean I could never work for anyone else.
"I couldn't see myself working at a League Two club.
"But you can never rule anything in or out for good and you can never predict what will happen next in football.
"This time last week we wouldn't have been discussing Kevin Keegan as Newcastle manager."
