Alan Shearer is starting to open up and his partnership with Gary Lineker is the best TV pairing the show has had.
The GOALden Boy got one over Ruud Gullit on Match of the Day with a cheeky dig that amused Newcastle United fans last night.
The Dutchman infamously named Shearer on the bench for the Tyne-Wear derby against Sunderland in 1999 and also axed Duncan Ferguson in a crazy decision, naming young Wearsider Paul Robinson in attack instead.
Gullit then claimed that Newcastle were doing better without the duo as his side tossed away a 1-0 lead in the game to lose on Tyneside 2-1.
Shearer was actually beaten to the manager’s office the next morning by Ferguson who made his feelings known to the ex-AC Milan ace.
However, when analysing Man United’s 2-0 win over Sunderland, the spat came to light again on the BBC last night.
When discussing Radamel Falcao’s form, Shearer said, sitting next to Gullit on the MOTD panel: “I had a very similar problem at Newcastle when I was going through a tough time when some manager didn’t really believe in me.
“Then a certain Bobby Robson came in and within a week he identified the problem and said: ‘You’re too easy to play against’
“What he meant was that defenders keep looking at my number and I wasn’t running in behind.
“I wasn’t making it tough enough for them and Falcao has exactly the same problem.
“He’s not running in behind and making it easy for defenders.”
Gary Lineker continued to turn the heat up on Gullit with a second pop at the former Toon boss when saying: “If you’d have seen that in Alan Shearer’s game you might still be manager of Newcastle!”
