Jackie Milburn, who scored 200 goals for the club, and Alan Shearer, who beat that record by six, will have statues made cast in bronze.

The statues will stand outside St James Park to honour two of Newcastle's greatest ever players.

This is the third time Milburn has been honoured in this way, and Shearer says he never dreamt it would happen to him.

Shearer: "It is such an honour. Jackie was the greatest."

They will be made by Tom Maley, born in Morpeth, and displayed at some time during next season.
