The pictures have been removed from corporate boxes inside the stadium and replaced with images of the current playing squad and staff.
The team, which was captain by Shearer and contained hugely popular former players like Nolberto Solano, Warren Barton, Kieron Dyer, Craig Bellamy and Rob Lee, finished fourth that season and third the following year.
A spokesperson for Newcastle United said the pictures had been on the walls of the club’s 100 corporate boxes, but have now been replaced by more up to date images.
It was claimed the images were “old and not being used anymore”. It was also pointed out that pictures of every team since 1993 were hung on the walls in the media suite and were visible to anyone who went on a stadium tour of St James’ Park.
Although the refurbishment of the corporate boxes had been planned for some time, the sight of the pictures in a skip along with grass cuttings and building material has not gone down well with some supporters.
Twitter has seen many supporters, who will hang onto ANYTHING to take a dig at Mike Ashley, vent their anger this morning.
