Alan Shearer says the Premier League is a ‘better place’ now that Newcastle United are back in the top flight.
The former forward, who holds the all time goal scoring record for both the top flight and United, could not hide his joy when asked about the Magpie’s promotion.
Speaking to Coral, he said: “Absolutely [delighted]. It took it’s time coming. It went a bit wobbly over the last few weeks but got there in the end. It was a great evening on Monday [against Preston], the second second half performance was excellent.
“I know a lot of people would say because of the size of the club, because of the budget, they should be winning the league but I don’t think anyone is bothered here in Newcastle. They’re just bothered about getting back in the Premier League where we all feel Newcastle belong. The Premier League is a better place with Newcastle let’s face it.”
Focus now turns to the summer and how Rafa Benitez will strengthen his squad and whether he will be given the funds from Mike Ashley to do so.
Newcastle made it 14 wins on the road after beating Cardiff City 2-0 on Friday night. That result meant Benitez and his squad broke a record laid down by Kevin Keegan ’s Newcastle side in 1992/93 for away wins in a league campaign.
