Newcastle United legend Alan Shearer has written on Coral.co.uk that Aston Villa could break Derby County’s record for the lowest points total in the history of the Premier League.
Derby could manage just 11 points during the 2007-08 season and got relegated to the Championship. Villa have picked up only eight points from 20 league games so far this campaign.
Former Newcastle striker Shearer has suggested that the Villans could create a new unwanted record this term.
“If they carry on as they are doing, Villa could see themselves in danger of breaking Derby’s record for the lowest points total in the history of the Premier League,” the former England international has written on Coral.co.uk.
“They are a poor side who are just leaking goals at the moment. I am afraid it is all doom and gloom for them and I can’t give them any hope of staying up.”.
The Villans will return to Premier League action this evening when they take on Crystal Palace at Villa Park.
Palace are seventh in the standings at the moment with 31 points from 20 matches, five points behind Tottenham Hotspur, who are currently fourth in the standings and occupy the final Champions League spot.
