Newcastle United legend Alan Shearer has predicted that Man City will lose out to Liverpool in the Premier League title race this season.
Mind you, remember this moment, because he will change his mind counless times during the course of the campaign.
City saw off fierce competition from the Reds to win back-to-back titles with Pep Guardiola's side finishing one point ahead of Jurgen Klopp's charges.
In the Community Shield on Sunday, City prevailed once again as they defeated Liverpool after a penalty shootout.
However the Match of the Day pundit insists that despite Sunday’s Wembley win, this is in fact Liverpool’s year.
Shearer expressed his admiration for Man City’s domestic treble-winning side last season but believes Liverpool’s Champions League winning momentum will overpower the Blues - if they can improve defensively.
“Without doubt, it will be Liverpool and Man City once again fighting it out for the title," Shearer told the Sun.
“I’m going to stick my neck out here and say Liverpool might just pip City to the league, providing they are more organised in defence than they looked at times on Sunday.
“Despite City winning the domestic Treble last time, the momentum Liverpool will have from bagging the Champions League will be crucial this season.
"However, I’m not sure either team will be able to better last season. We were very lucky to witness what we did with Liverpool being so good — and City being just one point better.”
City kick-off the new Premier League season in just under a week, facing off against West Ham at the London Stadium on Saturday at 12:30.
