Nexus has asked NU-Mad to put Newcastle fans in the picture about the Shearer statue we reported on yesterday following inaccurate media reports.
Nexus has not had any talks with the City Council over any such project to erect a statue of Alan Shearer.
The land around St James Metro station is on a long lease so Nexus can't get involved in any such scheme
A Nexus spokesman said: "While Nexus are the freehold owners of some land around St James Metro station, the area is subject to a long lease which was granted in 1998 and that means we couldn't take part in this project."
