Ipswich striker Michael Chopra has spoken of his desire for Shearer to follow Sir Bobby Robson's footsteps and become the club's new manager.
Paul Jewell left the Suffolk club by mutual consent on Wednesday after a torrid run, and Ipswich are without a win in 11 games in all competitions. They sit bottom of the Championship, four points from safety.
Chopra: "I would love to see Alan Shearer as manager.
"He is such a good person and worked, played under some great managers including Sir Bobby Robson."
Shearer has only had one previous job in management, winning one of his eight games in charge of Newcastle as they were relegated from the Premier League in 2009.
