We are still hearing rumours that the former Toon skipper is waiting for Ashley to sell up before committing himself to the Newcastle cause.
He waffled yesterday, saying "I haven't even thought about it", when we know full well he has thought of nothing else since taking over the job eight games ago.
He even told his BBC pals on Match Of The Day: "I'll be back in the studio next season, keep the seat warm for me".
Suggesting he will NOT take over the job as long as Ashley is in control.
Asked if he wanted to stay on as manager, Shearer said: "Ask me that in a few days. I haven't even thought about it.
