Alan Shearer: “Well I don’t expect us to win it, I don’t think many people do for the first time in a long time which might help them.
“If we can get out the group, which I think we will, and then get to a quarter-final then all we ever ask is for us to see progress.”
Les Ferdinand: “When you look at it we all get excited and as a fan you want England to win it obviously.
“But if you’re being sensible you look at quarter-finals and say are we quite there yet?
“I think we’re building for the future and I don’t think it’s this tournament but maybe the next one when we might have a chance of winning it.
“The great thing is there’s no expectation this time so maybe they might go on to do something special and that’s what I’m hoping.”
