Jonjo Shelvey will play for Newcastle United’s second string against Norwich City tonight at St James' Park.
The England international has not played for almost a month since being sent off against Tottenham Hotspur for a needless stamp on Dele Alli at St James’ Park during the first game of the season.
Shelvey is lacking match practice and agreed to play in the game after failing to get off the bench against Swansea City at the weekend. United will also field Jamie Sterry and Rolando Aarons in the clash against the Canaries. Freddie Woodman will also get some competitive game-time under his belt in the clash at Tyneside.
The under-23s have opened their Premier League 2 campaign with two wins and a defeat – as well as making a successful debut in the Checkatrade Trophy, where they were the only Academy team to win in the first round of fixtures. Academy rising stars Callum Roberts, Victor Fernandez and Daniel Barlaser will also feature in a strong-looking side.
The game kicks off at 7pm and season ticket holders can gain free admission. It is £3 for adults and £1 for concessions – the game is being screened live on NUFCTV and we will be live-blogging the match.
