Shepherd Ready To Swoop For Woodgate
Middlesbrough manager Gareth Southgate, and is ready to go head-to-head with the Smogs to sign him.
One thing has been noted, however, and that is the reason Woodgate turned down Newcastle to go on loan to Smog City. At first it was thought it was because he wanted to play for his home town club, but that is far from the mark.
According to reports last month he favoured Newcastle ... but was not impressed with Glenn Roeder! And it has been suggested Shepherd could be set to start the "musical managerial chairs" party game again in the summer.
Roeder has not won over the players and there is a big rift in the dressing room that is beyond repair. Roeder has already said he wants a clear out in the summer, but it is thought he could be the one to leave. One thing is certain, Woody will not join Newcastle if he is still the manager.
Southgate has reiterated his desire to keep Jonathan Woodgate and other Newcastle target Mark Viduka at the club.

Viduka's contract expires at the end of the season, while Woodgate's loan deal also finishes in the summer.
Southgate: "We want to keep our best players. If we can keep those sort of players it sends out the right sort of message to potential signings that we are a club that does the right things and is moving forward."
