After Miguels's terrific show in this years European Championships, Miguel's tramsfer value soared to nearer the £10 million mark.
However if reports are to believed, United would not be willing to go higher than £5 million for the defender's services.
"We're nearly there but I think it's no secret to anybody that we're looking to strengthen the defence.
"We've got four weeks before the transfer window closes and we're trying.
"We won't discuss it unless we're successful.
"He's a good player but I keep saying to everybody there's always another car in another lot. There's other right backs out there."
Should the Miguel deal be completed he would be the fourth player to join the club this summer, meeting up with James Milner, Patrick Kluivert and Nicky Butt, who will be revealed to the press tomorrow. The new number 4 has officially signed for the Magpies in a £2 million deal.
Michael Chopra has been linked with Watford on loan as has Laurent Robert to La Liga outfit Espanyol.
"I know about the interest of Espanyol, but nobody has talked to myself," commented the unpredictable Frenchman. "They are things for my representatives and I prefer for the time being not to be involved.
"The unique thing that I can say is that at Newcastle I am very comfortable, but for every player to move to the Spanish league is a step up. It is always nice to know other championships."
