Shola and Chops for Barcelona?

Press reports have suggested that Michael Chopra will be part of the squad after his omission from the England Under-20 squad, although whether or not he’ll feature ahead of Shola Ameobi, Lomana Lua Lua or Carl Cort remains to be seen.

Of course Sir Bobby has the option of playing Kieron Dyer up front and packing the centre of midfield with Gary Speed, Jermaine Jenas and Hugo Viana or Clarence Acuna.

It seems a little unlikely that Sir Bobby will go in with a completely untried strike force, but with Barcelona having terrible injury problems in defence it might be a wasted opportunity to go with a defensively minded team.

Meanwhile Shola has been talking about the possibility of facing Barcelona: "It's unfortunate that Alan and Bellers are banned for Barcelona, but it gives other people a chance to come in and prove they can do a job.

"All I can do is to keep doing what I've done all season, and that is to do my best when I get a chance. I feel I have improved as the season has worn on, and my confidence is getting better with every game.

"At the moment I seem to be the third choice striker because I've been involved over the last few weeks, but there are also lads like Corty and Lomana who haven't been involved recently who could come into the manager's thoughts.

"It's great to be involved in a competition like this for any player, and for a 21-year-old like myself it's fantastic to be playing in the games and taking on the best players from the likes of Barcelona and Juventus."
