Speaking ahead of the England Under-21’s game against Portugal (complete with Hugo Viana) the rapidly improving striker claimed that both he and Titus Bramble had the potential to join Jonathan Woodgate, Kieron Dyer and Jermaine Jenas in the senior squad.
"Manchester United have had a strong contingent in the England squad over the last few years, and that's what we're looking to do," explained Ameobi.
"I definitely think all five of us could get in. We do have that confidence that we will get there one day. It's just a matter of time and patience.
"But it's certainly the best of English at Newcastle. Sir Bobby Robson is building a fantastic squad of young players. It's amazing the atmosphere he has created.
"He has given us all that confidence and the belief that we can go and challenge in the near future.
"People are saying we won't challenge until three or four years' time. But we're doing it now, and I'm sure we'll be doing it next season. That's the aim.
"We're a big force now, with the players we've got and the signings the manager has made. We believe in ourselves as a team and as a squad. We've got the players to do it, so why not?"
