Wolves manager Paul Lambert claimed that Newcastle matchwinner Aleksandar Mitrovic was lucky to still be on the pitch when he scored the decisive goal at Molineux.
Mitrovic struck from close range in the 44th minute to send Newcastle back to the top of the table in the 1-0 win.
But Lambert felt that he was fortunate not to be sent-off following his 27th minute challenge on goalkeeper Carl Ikeme - 13 minutes after he had already been booked.
Lambert said: "It is the referee's call but I know as an ex-player when you have been yellow carded and you raise your studs you are in danger no matter what league or division you are in.
"I think that maybe (Newcastle boss) Rafa (Benitez) realised that at half-time and took him off.
"He has been in the game longer than I have on the management side but I also know that when you raise your studs you are in trouble.
"The lad was offside for the goal as well so that is two big moments and the referee calls it the way that he sees it.
"I saw the foot being raised and he caught him."
Mitrovic's challenge led to a furious exchange between the two dugouts and Lambert added: "I was upset with one of their bench.
"I am not letting anyone come out and be derogative to my own bench. I am not having that so I will give it back."
Despite a second successive defeat, Lambert was pleased with the display of his side and he said: "We had domination of the game against a team that I think will go out of the league.
"I couldn't ask for anymore apart from being a wee bit better with the ball in the final third. I'm delighted with the way that we played."
Mitrovic pounced from close range after a Jonjo Shelvey free-kick found its way to him via Mohamed Diame and Jamal Lascelles and the Serbian made no mistake from six yards.
