Sibierski Robbed!

... it was his second "goal" that was the main talking point late in the game.

£10million striker Martins levelled at 2-2 from the penalty spot on 57 minutes with his first Premiership goal for the club at St James' Park, and Sibierski thought he had restored the lead two minutes later, only for referee Rob Styles to rule his strike out.

Roeder: "Nobody other than the referee at this stage can understand why it was disallowed - it certainly was not offside.

"The referee's assistant was right in front of me and he said, 'It is nothing to do with me, it was onside'.

"I spoke to Rob afterwards and he said he had blown early in the move for an apparent infringement. I have not seen it yet, but people who have seen it say they cannot see any infringement.

"I can only say thank God for us, and to a degree Rob Styles, that we won the game."

As it happens, it didn't matter in the end, but it could have.
