Danny Simpson: “As a team, we’re getting back to where we were last year.

“We just have to iron out a few things that just aren’t going for us at the moment.

“I played the day that Andy Carroll scored at Arsenal and we won 1-0. We’ve had some great games against them over the years.

“There’s no reason why we can’t go back there again and do something similar to that.

“They’re not the team of a couple of years ago.

“So we have to go there and try to upset them.

“Everybody knows Man United and Arsenal away are two tough games over Christmas, but we have to take some positives from Old Trafford.

“If we don’t, we have to look at ourselves. We have to go to Arsenal and have the same mentality and the same attitude, and give it a go like we did against Man United.

“It hurts. We keep saying we’re performing well, but not getting the result.

“Not many teams go to places like Old Trafford and perform like we did, but when you pick up the paper, it still says Man United 4 Newcastle 3.

“I’ve said I always go there to prove a point – I want to win because I used to be there.

“In the last three games I’d played, I hadn’t lost against them, so I had a little personal record against them. It hurts in the last minute – it was the last minute, and it was a soft goal.

“If somebody puts it into the top corner, you say ‘fair play’, but it was a soft goal.”
