Sir Bob - I was absolutely elated
A goal from Kieron Dyer early into the second half, gave the Toon a valuable 1-0 victory over ZK Zeljeznicar - ensuring a vital away goal to take into the second leg to be played at St James Park in a fortnights time.
"Our midweek game in Sarajevo was an interesting experience," he said in his column for United's Official website, "and I was absolutely elated at how we did out there in a hostile environment and on a terrible surface.
"We were missing more than £30m worth of players in Speed, Acuna, Bellamy, Robert, Cort and O'Brien, and because of that I played a very side with an average age of around 22.
"We're not getting carried away though, because the game is still wide open at 1-0 and it's up to us to finish them off when we get them back to St. James'.
"As for Sarajevo itself, for a place that has had such well-documented problems I was amazed the passion for sport, and in particular football, that the people had out there."
