Sir Bobby was also keen to praise his wife Elsie who accompanied him to the Palace.
"She has been a solid support for me throughout 47 years of marriage," he said.
"She made sure I got out of bed every morning and went to work, and always had a warm welcome for me on my return. I've always had a great family around me."
If anyone in football deserves this honour its Sir Bobby and lets hope he can bring his career to an end in style by bringing some silverware to St James’ Park.
