Rumours had apparently been circulating that the pair had fallen out over the decision to leave Shearer on the bench for the Carling Cup clash with West Brom, although some unsubstantiated reports suggest the dispute goes back as far as the summer.
In August a rumour emerged that Liverpool had made a cheeky bid to sign Shearer for £3million and, despite Reds boss Gerard Houllier denying the story, some sources claim that Sir Bobby wanted to accept the bid but was over-ruled by Freddy Shepherd.
All of which seems a bit too far-fetched to be true.
When asked about the supposed West Brom disagreement, Sir Bobby replied: "Simmering feud? Where has that come from?
"There is no simmering feud and the fans who have read about that should be told.
"It is totally wrong, not a hint of truth.
"Where has it come from? I don't know and neither does Alan.
"It has to be stopped now. There is absolutely no 'simmering' row between us.
"Of course Alan said he wanted to play, every professional footballer wants to play in every game, what are they supposed to say?"
