Sir Bobby Sent Toon Defender To Meet The Master!
The pair meet again on Sunday, with Adams now manager at Portsmouth.
Steven Taylor: "He was an idol for me and to work with him at Wycombe was a fantastic experience at such an early stage of my career.
"I don't think I would be where I am now had it not been for the loan move.
"The first time I met him I can remember my hands were shaking and I was sweating so much. I was incredibly nervous, I didn't know what to expect, he had this aura around him.
"It was fantastic to get that chance to play for him and learn from him, he was an inspiration to me and the whole month was a real eye opener for me.
"It built confidence in me and when I came back to Newcastle I think I wanted it that little bit more.
"It made me believe in myself. I was in the reserves week in week out at Newcastle and I wasn't really going anywhere. I wasn't challenging myself.
"There were so many centre-halves at the club I was thinking to myself that I wouldn't get in the team. I was stuck in a bit of a rut and I don't know where I would have ended up.
"I went to Wycombe, got some first team games under my belt and when I came back I was so much more determined to make it at Newcastle.
"I'd worked with someone I'd grown up thinking was absolutely awesome and the experience was just what I needed to kick on and get out of the comfort zone. I learnt a lot in that short space of time.
"When I went there the team were at the bottom of the league and it taught me how much football means to people at that level. When you're in the reserves it's easy not to be too bothered about the result, but this was completely different.
"The lads were playing for their bonuses and it meant so much to them. I picked up some of that hunger while I was there and Newcastle got a better player back than the one who left."
