Sir John Hall: “It’s been a long, long six months but I’m finished now. In many ways it has been very interesting. I realise I could be in a much worse position.
“You come away more humble than you were before because you see so many other cancers, so many other people suffering, including children. At the North East cancer unit there are nine machines and they are going all of the time.
“All you have to do is stick with it and stay positive. That’s all you can do. It’s so shocking when you first find out, but then you become more used to it. I’m thankful I’ve had the treatment I’ve had.
“The secret is catching it early enough. When it gets out of the prostate, that’s when you start having more problems. It’s so important men over 50 get themselves checked.
“I just have to wait for three months now to see how the treatment has gone. Hopefully it’s gone well, but if it hasn’t then that’s when you have to start considering other treatments.
“All the medical staff at the Freeman Hospital have been fantastic. Nothing has been a problem. They have talked me through the treatment every step of the way so I have always understood what was going on. There has been no reason to be afraid.
“I’m looking forward to some time abroad and relaxing with my family. I’m planning to take a trip into Florence.".
