While ninth place is a respectable and impressive achievement so far, Jamaal Lascelles warned: “We have been able to look at the table over the break and enjoy it.
“But listen, we’re taking it step by step - nobody should get ahead of themselves.
“This is a long season. Every game will be tough and we know that.
“If we show the same energy and intensity we have so far home and away, teams will struggle.”
Lascelles hopes that United can show more of the same again this weekend and on the back of a good battling draw with Liverpool, the skipper added: “We were up for the Liverpool game and it showed as we were always up for the first and second balls.
“We were bright, now we want more of the same at Southampton.”
