Solano Looks To The Future As A Manager

Solano has hailed Sam Allardyce's demanding training regime as a shot in the arm for the players and the squad in general, and is learning all about management skills from what is now his 6th Newcastle manager (8 if you include stand in managers).

Allardyce wants Solano as part of his future plans for the club by handing the 32-year-old an extended deal at St James' Park earlier this month, and the Peruvian is sure that it will benefit his career.

Solano: "This is the hardest pre-season I've had since being at Newcastle.

"I want to be a coach in the near future so I find Sam's methods very interesting. The only problem in Peru is there isn't much money to invest in the game.

"I'll definitely keep a lot of these ideas for when I move into management. You have to keep up with the new ideas.

"We have our own personal masseur and we were wearing heart monitors. In terms of tactics, there are no secrets anymore, so Sam's ideas might give us an advantage.

"I'm only 32 and there are other players playing until they are 36 or 37. There is no reason why I can't go on longer."

Nobby signed from Argentinian side Boca Juniors in July 1998 for £2.5m by then Toon manager Kenny Dalglish.

He actually had a better record of "long passes completed" than David Beckham in Becks' last season at Old Trafford.

Sir Bobby Robson surprised us all when he sold him in the summer of 2004 to Aston Villa.

New boss Graeme Souness tried to buy him back in January 2005 - and finally did get him in the summer of that year.
