Nobby Solano's versatily, fitting in wherever the need arises, has been a key to Newcastle United dragging themselves away from the relegation zone.
The Peruvian's current contract expires at the end of the season, and he has made it clear he wants to see out his career at St James' Park.
Solano has not yet entered into any talks with the club, and Glenn Roeder has been very cagey with all the players under review, including Titus Bramble and Craig Moore. But Roeder has hinted Antoine Sibierski is playing his way to earning a new contract. Roeder told The Mirror: "Antoine has a deal until the summer, but I get the feeling he'd want another one here. He has settled in very professionally." .
However, the Toon manager has described Solano as the ultimate professional.
Slano: "Obviously I would love a new contract but nobody's talking about it at the moment. All I am doing is concentrating on playing as many games as I can, and doing my best for the team. I'm enjoying playing at right-back, and I'm enjoying playing for the fans here, who are the best.
"I'm very happy at St James' Park, but for the moment it is best to concentrate on my football."
Obviously Roeder has convinced him he has a future at right-back, if need be, because back in 2002 the player hated the position. He was drafted into the defence for Peru, and after a run of bad results, Solano took the blame from the Peruvian fans. He said at the time: "I am not a defender. The coach has to understand that".
