Dave Mackinnon last night revealed he wants a player-manager in the Souness mould to kick-start his own Dundee revolution.
The new chief executive of Dundee outlined his bold blueprint for the future - with Rangers star Alex Rae the front-runner to succeed Alan Kernaghan in the hot seat.
MacKinnon was a player at Ibrox when Souness's arrival sent shockwaves throughout Scottish football.
MacKinnon: "Rangers were a Premier League team going through some pretty bad times. I think they were fourth in the table when Souness came and he was a real quality player. He immediately gave the team a boost and having a player of his stature attracted players from elsewhere because he was a legend. If they were thinking of going to Aberdeen, obviously knowing that someone like Souness was at Rangers counted for quite a lot."
