Tottenham have again asked about the player's situation at St James' Park, knowing full well the JJ has eyes on a move to the capital, but Souness insists he would like to keep the 22-year-old at the club.
Responding to press speculation, Souness told Sky Sports News: "I've heard nothing on that. I'm happy with JJ apart from him getting sent off at Highbury which I partly blame myself for anyway.
"But in the two games he's played well, I'm happy with him and I don't want him to leave."
If Jenas's future in the North East is in doubt then his manager's is certainly shrouded in uncertainty, however the former Blackburn manager defused any talk of managerial upheaval.
He added: "I think we're quite unique in this respect - to be talking about a crisis after two games it makes me laugh. I think it makes people who understand football laugh as well."
