Still fighting – all the post match reaction

Sir Bobby

"I can't praise the players enough for the character they showed against Kiev. They have come from a goal behind again and recorded their third win in seven days. That speaks volumes for them.

"We knew that a draw wasn't good enough, and I said at half time that we may have to be patient and keep plugging away until the end.

"As it happened their goal just after half time changed things, but we kept at it and got our rewards. In my opinion we got what we deserved."

Alan Shearer

"It was a daft decision from the referee to award them the throw in that led to the goal, but we were caught flat-footed after that and I did fear the worst.

"It's all very well coming from a goal behind in the Premiership, but it's a different story in the Champions League so we deserve great credit for that.

"We're delighted with the win because it means we still have a chance - not a great chance - but a chance nevertheless to make progress.

"I said before the game that Kiev were the strongest side defensively we have played in this competition and I stand by that. I think their 5-0 defeat in Juventus was a one-off, and we're delighted to havebeaten them because they are a quality side."

Nikos Dabizas

"We know the situation, but Juventus have a lot of quality players in their squad and if they do make changes then the players that come in will be wanting to impress their manager.

"But we cannot worry about that, because before we look at other teams we have to win our own game.

"It is no good us concentrating on the match between Kiev and Juve and not our own. We have to go to Feyenoord to win the match, and then see what happens after that.

"But even to be in with a chance of qualifying now is good considering the start we have, and there is also the UEFA Cup as a consolation."

Gary Speed

"It may have come off the goalkeeper's chest but it is my goal and I am definitely claiming it.

"It was important to get back into the game after they scored. Their goal was disappointing because nobody knows why the linesman gave them a throw-in.

"But we were a bit sloppy and we did not react quickly enough, and in the end it was a bad goal for us to give away.

"So we needed to hit back quickly because Kiev are a good side. It took patience, but it also took fighting spirit and it just shows that this team never gives up."

Aaron Hughes

"They were very well organised defensively but I think the difference was that we were better prepared after what happened in Kiev.

"But I've got to say that the last 10 minutes seemed like six hours as they came at us at the end."

Nolberto Solano

"Juventus did a favour for us because they beat Feyenoord. Now I hope they can beat Kiev in their final game.

"We have a chance. We must try to win the game first of all but if we draw we stay in the UEFA Cup. I hope Dynamo can draw or lose against Juventus. I think I need to call my friend from Juventus, Marcelo Salas."

Andy O’Brien

"They're all big games and I think we've been unlucky in some of the earlier games and now the luck's gone the other way. Had things turned out differently we could be in Juventus' position and have qualified for the next stage already.

"We didn't have the best of starts but it's all down to the Feyenoord game and we're all looking forward to it.

"We were unlucky not to beat them at home, there's no doubt about that. We'll go there with a lot of confidence but there's a lot of games to be played before then and if we keep on building on what we've done then who knows."

Shola Ameobi

"Obviously I was very pleased to keep my place, it shows the gaffer has faith in me. Everyone out there last night gave 110 per cent and that's all you can do out there when you're picked in the starting 11.

"It was a fantastic result. It was what we wanted, to take things into the final match. We've worked hard and it's paid off."

Titus Bramble

"It was an amazing fightback and a lot of teams might have folded after going a goal down so soon after the break.

"But we love proving people wrong and we have showed yet again what fantastic self-belief we have. We went a goal down on Saturday and came back to win. We never think we are beaten.

"All credit to Kiev, they defended very deep and were hard to break down. When they went a goal up they must have thought their tactics had worked to perfection.

"But we dug deep, the crowd got behind us and we fought our way back into the game. On balance I think we got the result we deserved and it is a victory every bit as sweet as the one against Juventus. We have kept our hopes of qualifying alive and we now know we go to Feyenoord with a good chance of qualifying."
