Still no confirmation of Woodgate deal

Leeds have yet to confirm that we have made a bid, but most papers claim that Freddy Shepherd has handed his Elland Road counterpart Peter Ridsdale a take it or leave it offer, consisting of a down payment of around £7million rising to £10million with appearances.

On Sunday Terry Venables told a tabloid paper that Ridsdale had assured him that he would do all he could to hang on to Woodgate, but all the other national papers describe the move as inevitable.

Meanwhile Seth Johnson’s move from Leeds to Boro has finally collapsed, meaning the Yorkshire outfit is left with a choice of selling Woodgate or having to face the wrath of a plc board desperate to raise funds.

The England defender is reported to have said that he wants the move to happen, but Ridsdale will not be forced into selling player against his will again following Rio Ferdinand’s move to Man U in the summer.

What it may come down to is whether Ridsdale wants to face the angry reaction of the fans or risk the possibility of the sack from the Leeds Sporting plc board.
