After struggling to make an impact in English football, the Magpies loaned out the French attacking midfielder to Marseille for the season last summer, with an option to make the move permanent.
The 25-year-old has been more or less a regular in Marseille’s first eleven this season, and has five goals and two assists to his name in all competitions.
Cabella confirmed that Marseille have the option to sign him on a permanent contract next summer, and is expecting to stay at the Stade Velodrome next season.
He added that he is feeling comfortable with the club, and their environment and wants to help them to become one of the top sides in France again.
The Frenchman was quoted as saying by Foot Mercato: “Yes, there is an option to buy; this was expected from the start.
“Under normal circumstances, I will be at Marseille next season as I am happy and I have adapted well. I get along well with the club, the staff, and all the players. There is a great atmosphere.
“Now I want to help the club to get back to the highest level.”
Cabella joined Newcastle from Montpellier in the summer of 2014, but a return of just one goal and two assists from 34 appearances painted a sorry picture of his time in the north east of England.
