Sir Bobby said the Tyne/Wear derby was the "first game we look for when the fixtures come out", and insisted it was a benefit to the North-East.
Mort believes derby games can only be good for Newcastle and, with new owners at both St James's Park and the Stadium of Light, he says both clubs cannot wait for the big event.
Mort: "Everybody you talk to in Newcastle will have a different prospective on things, but mine is I would rather both clubs were in the Premier League because you have games like Saturday.
"It means we can have a match against our biggest rivals.
"Niall Quinn and Roy Keane have been taking the club forward over their period of ownership.
"They have new owners and a new chairman too and their regime in charge is 12 months ahead of ours.
"They have taken the club forward and got their place in the Premier League.
"They should be a side strong enough to keep their place."
