Talking about Shearer’s goal against Everton, MacDonald told the Evening Chronicle: "That strike was worth the entry fee alone for the 51,000 crowd.
"Those fans there yesterday and those watching the game on TV were privileged to see a little bit of football history being made.
"For it is not very often you see perfection. But that's what Shearer's goal was. Sheer perfection. It has to be that because it is impossible to better a goal like that.
"There are only a few players in the game today who could score a goal like that. Obviously Shearer is one. And Gianfranco Zola at Chelsea is another.
"They get their bodies into the right position and even when the ball is dropping from a great height their knee goes over it and the foot comes through - and bang."
I guess nobody could really say anything critical about that goal.
