Sven Botman is on his way to Newcastle to undergo a medical ahead of his £40m move to St James' Park from French club Lille.
The Dutch defender had been close to joining AC Milan earlier this summer but has now struck a deal with Newcastle, who have been pushing to sign the 22-year-old ever since their Saudi-backed takeover was completed in late 2021.
With personal terms already agreed with Botman, sources have confirmed to 90min that Botman is on his way to Tyneside to put the finishing touches on his move.
Should all go to plan, Botman will become Newcastle's third signing of the summer, following goalkeeper Nick Pope and left-back Matt Targett, the latter of whom spent the last six months on loan from Aston Villa, in moving to St James' Park on permanent deals.
Manager Eddie Howe is looking for more signings as well and hopes to bolster in attack, although that will not be through the addition of Reims striker Hugo Ekitike.
The Magpies have pulled out of a deal to sign the in-demand 20-year-old who, like Botman, was a January transfer target that dragged out to the summer as well.
