The 22-year-old was offered a new contract in September after establishing himself in the first team, but he felt he was worth better wages, what with Liverpool and Chelsea said to be ready to offer him a deal.
But he said he only wanted to play for Newcastle, and the ball was put back in Mort's court.
Mort: "Steven Taylor is a young and very promising defender in the team.
"We would like him to stay at Newcastle United long term. We will sit down with Steven and his father, and hopefully work something out."
